If you are trying to squeeze a few more fun activities in your summer before the kids go back to school, check out your local zoo!
Who loves the zoo? Almost everyone! Make it a family affair! A zoo is great entertainment for all ages! You can go for a couple of hours or you can make it an all day event! Most zoos offer a picnic area, so you can pack a tasty lunch and enjoy a break. Turn off the cell phones and put away the music. Enjoy time together as a family.
At the zoo, it is fun to see all of the different animals in their own habitats. It is extra fun, if there are baby animals to see!
Watching them hanging onto their moms, learning to walk, getting a lick bath, or just sleeping, babies are so precious! Everyone loves seeing the babies!
I love to watch the monkeys swinging in their exhibits. One of my favorite zoo exhibits ever, were the Penguins at the Indianapolis Zoo. They were entertaining and amazing! We stood there for what seemed like forever watching them dive, swim, and waddle! Do you know what your child’s favorite zoo animal is? My older boys loved the monkeys. They used to tell our youngest son, when he was little, that we got him from the monkey cage in the zoo. I think he might have believed them for awhile! Brothers! LOL!!! Although he grew to be the biggest in size, they still like to mess with him because he is the “little” brother. I am so very thankful that all 4 of our sons are very good friends!
Some zoos offer camel rides, elephant rides, and animals you can pet and feed. Train rides are available through most zoos. It may be the hot days of summer, but making the most of your time with the kids is something you will never regret.
Zoos can be very educational too! They provide a great opportunity to learn what kind of habitat each animal lives in and what they like to eat. Who they are compatible with and who they are not! If they like hot temperatures or if they like it cold. If they are friendly or standoffish. From young children to adults, there is plenty to be learned at a zoo.
Many zoos have monkeys, elephants, snakes, zebras, tigers, and giraffes. Larger zoos offer many more species of animals. Some have Polar Bear exhibits, Panda Bears, Kangaroos, Alligators, Hippopotamus, Rhinoceros, and many more species! Just like our kids, every animal has it’s own personality! No two zoos are going to be the same. Neither will any two trips to the same zoo be alike. Plan a trip before the summer gets away!
If it is too hot for you, what about a drive-thru zoo? You can stay in the comfort of your own car and see many of the animals.
